Title: Reusing wax moth frames
Post by: FlexMedia.tv on April 25, 2017, 12:40:03 AM
I had a hive taken over by wax moths last year. I cut out all the inserts of the frames and burned them. I scraped the frames and boxes and left them outside for the winter. Is that good enough to re use them?
Thanks
Art

Very good!
Some Club members were offering hive decontamination. I didn't think that was necessary, at least with just wax moths
Thank you,
Art

It's all I do with frames that have been hit by wax moths.

I scrape them off and put them back in the hives... no reason to burn anything unless you are dealing with AFB.

Thank you. Those are some nasty little bugs for sure.

if you had a bad moth infestation there was a bigger problem before that.  if there is a lot of damage i melt the comb but normally i just scrape the cocoons off and let the bees take care of it.

What about a mouse nest and urine?  Is that reusable?
