Title: oxalic acid fogging vs vaporizing
Post by: shawes on December 02, 2017, 03:22:22 PM
Hi all. New beek here. I'm looking for opinions on fogging vs vaporizing for varroa mites. I'd love to hear from someone who has tried both methods.

Hello, Shaw, welcome.  I can only comment on vapor, although I realize you wanted to hear from experience beeks with vapor and fog.

I use varrox, made for OA vapor.  Requires only a 12 volt battery.  I use a small size car battery for weight reduction.  For a hobbyist, 20 hives or less, this method works very well for me.  Only takes the varrox 2 1/2 minutes to completely sublimate (vaporize) 2 grams of oxalic acid.  I hope this info is helpful.

Fogging and vaporizing oxalic acid, I assume, would be the same thing.  The two choices are dribbling and vaporizing.

I had the impression that fogging was disolving the acid in a liquid and then boiling it into vapor as oppose of vaporizing the acid crystals directly.

Different is that one works (kills mites) - vaporizing and one does not - fogging.

There are only two methods currently in use for Oxalic acid:  dribbling and vaporizing

Has anyone here used the dribbling method?

Sure. Just read the label and do it the way it says. If the label says wood bleach you have an illegal product. Check with Brushy Mountain Bee Supply, or http://scientificbeekeeping.com/oxalic-dribble-tips/
