It is starting to bloom here. From what I gather bees will work it but it is a poor thing for them. Will they work it hard enough not to starve?
Bees will work anything that can feed themselves to avoid starvation. When in doubt I
just add a sugar brick into the hives. Remember that these bees will die in a few weeks. It is
more important to keep the colony going until the flow is on. Feb-April will be our critical time either to
expand or collapse a colony.
You should have dandelions blooming soon if not already.
Bees pick the best food source that is available to them and then they will pick the next best. Like humans "best" can be determined by quantity not quality.
Good for you beeks in Alabama, Texas and California to have flowers, enjoy. Gonna be a while in N Ar. Not a single dandelion here, high in the 40?s next 7 days. Soon, very soon flowers will appear. I am anxious, been colder than normal for January.
However, I enjoy reading your text (with envy) of whatever is blooming.
Blessings
I have attempted feed so far with no luck. Maybe next week. Yes be jealous by the end of the month by the roadsides things will be in full bloom.
The bees will work henbit until something better comes along.
I am not sure what my bees are on right now but they are doiing more than orientation flights.
