Post by: Stung on February 01, 2018, 03:12:35 PM
I can't remember, here goes.  Can I put honey b healthy in the winter candy while I making it, or will hurt it when heated

If a product contains probiotics, that is contains healthy or good bacteria, then yes heat will kill the microbes.  To be on the safe side, let the syrup cool to room temp then add whatever.

Looks to me, honey b healthy is a feed supplement, no microbes, contains essential oils and feed stimulates(?).   I do not know for sure what the ?stimulate? is.  If the stimulant contains enzymes, understand heat destroys most enzymes.
Blessings

I don't know about heating, but I know HBH will attract robber bees from a mile away. I would never use it when there was no honey flow on.

What Iddee said.
Bee careful with Hbh. A lot of people killed a lot of bees with that stuff in the early days because their directions were wrong. Too much of it in the mixture is dangerous.

Essential oils tend to be volatile.  I wouldn't use them because of concern about both the microbes and the communication in the colony, but if you are going to add it to candy, you do it after you are done cooking and before it's gotten too hard.  That way you limit the amount of evaporation of the volatiles.
