Title: Fly Control
Post by: Bush_84 on July 22, 2018, 09:15:12 PM
So I had some brood combs spend some time in my workshop this spring. I?m thinking the honey in the comb allowed things to get out of hand in the fly department.  They are everywhere. I setup a few traps. The type where you cutoff the top of a bottle and put in some apple cider vinegar and fruit. Nothing. I know that there are sprays and foggers but I have quite a bit of bee equipment. I?m thinking that fly poison isn?t something to mess around with. Any bee safe suggestions?  Or do I let them freeze in the fall?

My suggestion is to freeze the comb and keep it in a plastic bag until you can let the bees clean it up in the fall.

Comb is now all in use. I?m dealing with house flies.  Not wax moth.

If the comb is now all in use, then something else is attracting the houseflies.   Find it, and put up some fly strips.  You know, those sticky strips that hang from the ceiling.... assuming you won't use insecticide spray.
