Title: Cutout (MEAN BEES)
Post by: Fishing-Nut on July 25, 2019, 10:34:10 AM
I do lots of cut outs.  Several days ago I did one that was in a big column on someones front porch. These bees were real mean. Not anything that makes me think African bees or anything but just downright nasty. I had to suit up and still got stung 20 or so times.  I caged the queen and everything went pretty smooth. I've got them home and they are still not so nice. The home owner informed me that they had been sprayed several times a few weeks prior to me coming out. Do you think that the spray is what has them so pissy? I like bees with an attitude but if these girls dont calm WAY down in the next few weeks I dont want them. Anybody ever done a cutout on some bees that have been sprayed? If so what was your experience?

I've cut out many that had been sprayed. Some still dripping insecticide. Never noticed a difference in attitude.  Our honey flow stopped the last week in June. All the bees are meaner since then. The dry spell that ended last week made them even meaner.

Dearth has begun.  They are all a little testy.

You can always re-queen.

you may be onto something.  Maybe I'll start open feeding some raid insect killer and see if that gets them back in line. 🤔
