My established hive has had very low mite count on the sticky board for the whole season. This weekend I put a new sticky board and 36 hours later there was not a single mite on it. This hive was not treated last year. I will keep monitoring the sticky board but assuming things stay like this, do you think it's OK not to treat again?
I would suggest doing an alcohol or sugar shake to confirm your sticky board findings.
While sticky boards can give a good general overview, they are no where near as reliable as alcohol shakes.
. . . . just one mans opinion.
P.S. If your low mite counts ARE confirmed, CONGRATs !
If you do an alcohol wash, let us know your results. I?m hoping they are zero also.
