Several bees today flying around porch. Never see any up here around house except in the clover in yard. My oldest took trash out today and set it on the porch. There were a few going in it. Had one very interested in me. She even landed on my hand. I guess from where I feed them earlier. Anyway my 5 year old like to go out on the porch to pee. There was probably a dozen or more working that spot. What would they be getting?

The bees need salt for their own metabolic processes, and to carry back to their hives to help larvae develop, Giurfa said. Thus, homeowners' trendy saltwater pools attract bees like flies to honey.
One of our dogs always pees at the same spots every time he goes out, and the native bees go crazy for those spots, especially the sweat bees since they are particularly attracted to salt. Not sure what the flow is like in your area, but the bees may be checking out more unorthodox sources if you are in a dearth. Perhaps that?s why they were investigating the trash.
I went salt water fishing a couple of weeks ago and the bees went nuts for the water run off from the boat wash down. They used the source for days!

One thing is for sure, our little flying friends are very industrious l!! :cheesy:
Salt was only thing I could think of as well. Yeah I figured because of dearth. But we are fixing to come out. GR blooming.
I had noticed that last summer when my family was sleeping in the barn during the farmhouse renovations. That meant lots of peeing outside the barn door and every morning the honey bees were there ... I was wondering about that!
