We don?t use them much but we do have a couple of ProVent jackets. Both have managed to acquire holes in the veil. I looked on Mann Lake to see if there is a replacement hood but couldn?t find any. I emailed them but as of yet no response.
Any experience with repair or replacement on something like this?
I'm interested to hear what others do as well. I think my hive tool put a few holes in my jacket veil when I was transporting them together in a tote so I just sealed/repaired with a dab of silicone glue and it has held for the past month just fine.
Aroc,
I have repaired screens before. Just take a needle and thread and find the intact wires and start crisscrossing across the hole back and forth until it is sealed enough to keep the bees out. Just bee sure to tie the ends.

Those hood/veils are junk and irritating to wear. The screen is very delicate and will tear in the washing machine. Add to this getting stung in the nose and chin repeatedly, hot, and very poor visibility while operating the tractor.......I purchased the Mann Lake MV-110 Veil w/Cloth Hat & zipper which was a HUGE improvement especially visibility, much cooler, and rearly if ever a sting. Yes, they are a bit pricey but they last MUCH longer and hold up MUCH better than the junky hood.
The MV-110 veil comes with both parts of the zipper, one of which you will have to sew onto the bee suit/jacket. The wife did mine and she says it was very simple to sew on. She just sewed it on and left the original zipper in place so that I can go back to the hood veil if I want to. I seriously doubt that will happen.

I've been really happy with the Humble Bee zip-on hat/veil.
My first veil ... I did not unzip from the jacket to put in the washing machine. Whoops. Even in the gentle cycle, it was crushed.
Although a fix with hot glue was fast & easy, there were ... blobs ... in my field of vision. Happily, eBay and Amazon sell replacement veils.
Now, I wash the jacket separately, and rinse the hat/veil in the guest shower and let it drip dry. I just don't like donning grubby gear. And every single time I wash it, I get a laugh out of a line someone dryly wrote in a thread on washing bee suits:
"I hang mine up and hose it off once a year, whether it needs it or not."
