Took this the other day while searching for signs of a queen that I thought I may have accidentally killed.
Very good picture!
Yes those are good pictures. Did you take them with your phone?
Phillip
I did take them with my phone. It actually takes better pictures than that. I just couldn't tell if It was fully focused or not. Phone is a Samsung Galaxy note 8.
I have been wondering this for some time and this is the perfect place to ask. How do people take pictures of things in their hives without getting their phones all sticky? I couldn?t even begin to take my phone with me to the hive, if I just picked it up, I?d get propolis all over it! How do you protect your phone?
If you wear gloves everything gets sticky, because they are not washed that often.
No gloves, you are always washing hands and tool, and so the phone is sort of OK!
I wear latex gloves to keep my hands clean, (and the bees can sting right through them). I have to change gloves after every couple hives. Cannot even imagine washing hands between hives. My phone would get very sticky. I have an old one that my service provider no longer accepts.

Put the phone in a sandwich sized clear ZipLoc bag.

Same here. I wear nitrile gloves and they get really covered in propolis. They offer me a little bit of sting protection, but if one of the bees really targets me, I still get stung through them.

Can you get a decent image through the bag?
Great pic.

I was wondering the same thing. I'll bring my phone to the hives next time and try this out and see how it works for me.
I never put my phone inside anything. I guess maybe my bees make less propolis than some or I'm just real lucky and careful where I put my hands. On days that I plan on cleaning up some propolis I wont plan to take any pictures. That's for sure
