Had them out since about mid March baited with lemongrass oil. Rebaited them Monday with Swarm Commander and and they moved in sometime today.
And I've got a few questions...
It seems that the guards are working overtime and attacking several. Could a swarm have moved in and other bees are trying to rob them? Could there be another reason?
There's 5 frames of foundation in the trap. No drawn comb.
How long should I wait to put them in a hive? Once I move the trap I'll take them to a friend's farm.

Hello NCNate. I have heard very good things about swarm commander. I have yet to try it. I do not know what the fight is about. Since you have foundation, I would not think you would have to be in a big hurry to move them if for some reason speed, or need of moving is not top priority agenda. They will set up housekeeping and family matters very fast and fine (Laying and raising brood), right where they are. I also wish to congratulate you on your catch. Isn't beekeeping fun! I would like to suggest to you to remember to treat your new hive with OAV if you are of that persuasion of treating for mites organically before you wind up with capped brood. Let them settle and make themselves at home and when the time is let the mites, if any have it! lol

I would like to add that is a good looking box. Congratulations on your success.

With frames in place there isn't the need to move them quickly. I would give them a week to get some comb drawn and the queen to start laying. The open brood will "lock them in" when you move them.
The fighting is probably other scouts checking the box out.
Bad news. I checked them right before dark and they were gone. No idea what happened. Bees flying in and out at 630 and at 8 the only thing left was 1 dead bee right inside the opening. Any ideas?
