I read an article that said. Honey is becoming an increasingly scarce and increasingly in demand product. In France, imports have tripled in the last fifteen years, which has led to the arrival of dubious quality honey on the market. For two years between 2012 and 2014, Chinese honey was banned from European markets because it contained traces of chloramphenicol, an antibiotic that can have adverse effects on human health. More than half of the cheapest honey products sold in supermarkets are mixed with Chinese honey. The article was dated 2014. I do not know if the Chinese ban has been lifted.
I am also not sure what the current state of Chinese honey imports are, but there have been issues for years.

I remember a news story from 2016 about an illegal shipment of Chinese honey being seized by the US government. I hadn't heard about antibiotics before, but it doesn't surprise me, as China has been adulterating their honey for a long time.
The last time that I read a report on Chinese honey testing, it reported about the antibiotics and lead contamination. It is also mostly sugar water.
