European hornet, note the red on upper body.  This hornet was picking off my honey bees.  Caught red handed.

Glad you got it. Haven?t seen one in months here. Not the first yellow jacket either.

I wished I had a better camera than my iPhone.  Those jaws are wicked, tear a bee head off easily.  But not seen so good in the pic.

For size comparison: yellow jacket and two European Hornet.  I call it a yellow jacket: black with yellow stripes.  See Ms. Member for exact species.  I kinda lump insects together.

Thanks for the recommendation.  :happy:  That is a yellowjacket.  I'm not sure, but I think that might be the kind that people call aerial yellowjackets.

Those hornets have a stinger to match their size: could sew fabric with it.
