It was not even that hot today ...
Hot is subjective.
What was the actual temperature today? Is the hive in direct sun?
It is either bearding from temperature or, the hive is full and they need much more space. (Typically it is both).
I also see the entrance reducer is in place. Remove it. Give them full width of the landing board to work with.
It was in the mid-70s and yes the hive is in full sun.
For the entrance reducer I keep hearing that it's best to keep it in place all the time to help prevent robbing?
This is the Saska hive which is doing well. It donated 2 frames of brood to the other one, which were replaced with empty frames and I just added a honey super (medium with a queen excluder in between) so I didn't think it would need space right now. And the last inspection had no signs of swarming prep ... but i'll check.
thanks
I see this type of behavior in my observation hive. If the bees stay out all night then they usually end up swarming. If they go back together and into the hive at night they usually don?t swarm.

This is good to know. I will remember this good tip in the future. There are many good things that can be learned from observing an observation hive. You have answered other questions I have ask before as well, by what you have learned with your observations hive. Thanks!
