Hi 15, Kathy,
This is a 100+ year old poem, recently put to music (Loreena McKennit, good artist).
What do you "girls" think? 15 ask your sisters too.

I just want to know why you put girls in ""? :cheesy:
I am not usually a ballad type, but I like that.
Oh, and why do girls like bad boys? Because they aren't supposed to! It's fun to be naughty sometimes.
Sal, this is one of my favorite songs and one of my favorite artists! I can sing it by heart! Unlike Kathy, I LOVE ballads, especially old ones.
Having a decent sample size of girls to pull from in my family, I can say that not all girls do like bad boys. When they do, I think it's sometimes what Kathy said, and sometimes it's because bad boys are complicated, which is more interesting than a boring goody-two-shoes. I, for one, like secretly nice boys the most. Not bad enough to be dangerous, not friendly enough to be boring.
OK Folks,
Any "guys" are invited to chime in. Were you a "bad boy"?
Kathy, A number of years ago, Mike Dukakis era, I visited an old job. It was a "government" building, Dept of Revenue. I had been a "contractor", an "03". They needed me. I was quite irreverent, and they had to put up with it. They needed me to tell them how to do their job.
The "grunts" liked me. I was a "grunt". Many of the grunts were women/girls. At the time, I was "charming" to everyone. The "girls/women" and the men, straight and gay, all liked me (as a fun person).
Anyway, I was talking to "the Girls", and used the term "girls". A woman attorney was passing. She and I had a grunt/superior relationship. She voiced her objection to me using the term "girls". She was jealous that I was better looking and more popular than her.
Since then, and up until just a few years ago, I've enjoyed seeing her at seminars as her knees deteriorated under the weight she carried. Schadenfreude. Every time I use the term "girls", I remember those moments.
At my age, I can justify the term "girls". Younger women are all "girls" to me, and older women know what I mean. A few days ago, at a supermarket, I saw a "girl" quietly singing to the love song playing over the PA. I bet she was hot in the seventies. Now she is in her seventies,... except when she is singing that song. I smiled at her. She smiled back. She kept on singing.
BTW: I learned very young; Be nice to older women. They have daughters and granddaughters.
But I really don't like it when a younger woman calls me "Hon". I wonder if they really know me and why I don't recognize them?
Sal
When someone dies to save your life, you should honor that and not get yourself killed...
Tragedy has it's appeal to humans. Look at Romeo and Juliet. It's a romance between a 13 year old girl and a 17 year old boy that results in six deaths...
Ha, ha, I grew up primarily a goody two shoes and turned bad ass too late in life. No regrets though because dwelling on the past is not healthy.
Hi Folks,
Another Loreena McKennitt. Hard to understand her words sometimes.
Amazing video. Looks real"vintage". Possibly a re-enactment.
Enjoy.

That's a good one, Sal.
Another one of my favorites is Bonny Swans.

I also like Lady of Shalott, since I love Arthurian stuff. This video has some beautiful paintings too.

I know all these songs by heart, although I haven't sung Lady of Shalott all the way through in a while. I'm not sure I wouldn't get stuck somewhere without a refresher. Also, if anyone is into medieval style Christmas music, her Christmas albums are really good too, particularly "A Midwinter Night's Dream".
Girls going for the bad boys is a phenomenon that I have observed all my life and never understood completely. I suspect some of it is that desire for a man with courage and the bad boy has the opportunity to display courage in ways the nice boy does not. Also there is some desire by women to have someone take charge. I'm not sure of all of the psychological ramifications, but I suspect one is the desire for a leader and another is that it relieves the woman of some of the responsibility for decisions. I was never any good at being the bad boy. I much prefer being nice.
Hi Folks,
I, too, have always been nice. While they were playing hockey,.... I was with their girls. Stories about ... Derek Sanderson, Allan S----.
You're correct about "take charge". There can only be one "real leader", especially in a crisis. Think lions and lioness. Think hurricanes and emergencies. Think muggings. Think fixing a broken curtain rod.

Lead. Follow. Or Get out of the way. Lots of advice about how to mask how "dangerous/capable" you are.

Something else that can be a factor for some women is the desire to unearth the good man hidden in the bad one. Which sometimes is possible, but sometimes it's not. I myself have been both rewarded and burned in relationships like this.
Sal very interesting discussion in the video you posted. The guy is obviously very intelligent and focused.. This would have been a good video for a topic of its own, covering a lot of ground in just a few minutes.

I agree Ben, but I couldn't find just the first part.
