Have you noticed when bees stop laying for Winter in your area?
Phillip
I'm new to California so I don't know quite yet but they're still laying quite a bit as of now
The bees in the observation hive slowed down a couple of weeks ago, no new eggs right now. Bee numbers are really down. They should start up again on December 22.

Mine stopped sometime in October. By mid October they had pretty much shut down.
My bees are somewhat variable between hives. Some of my colonies are shut down my mid-October and others by mid-November. I usually still have a few colonies with brood when I close them up for the winter, so I don't know exactly what my latest brood date is, but I'd doubt I have any brood by December.

Exactly. They don't all shut down at the same time. There is a genetic component. The same with running out the drones. The feral survivors tend to keep more drones than the domestic varieties and the darker bees more than the Italians. The same with shutting down brood rearing. The feral survivors are more frugal ans shut down sooner. The darker races next. The Italians may not even shut down, but usually it's at least a month later than the others.

All that, well put MB.
Rephrased: For those of you who notice such things; When does 'your' particular breed, or breeds of bees (even if they are 'mutts') lol, 'generally' stop laying or 'almost' stop laying in 'your area' on average 'in a normal' winter weather patterned year at your location?.... :cheesy: lol
Naturally this may vary slightly from year to year considering weather patterns and conditions.
