I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me that this is true. The reason there was (exaggerated) panic about the Asian Giant Hornets and the potential for them to invade the US is the fact that the European honey bees aren't accustomed to defending against them. The major concern is that the European honey bees can't seem to get a ball hot enough to kill a hornet, and single hornet can kill up to 40 bees a minute.
