Happen to be present when a swarm took flight nearby. Started walking in their direction while banging hivetool and stick together.
They turned in my direction and landed nearby at chest height. Easiest swarm catch of this week!
Either Tanging works or the bees and I just happen to be headed for the same shrub at the same moment in time.
Whatever the case, it was interesting to get a chance to try it and to see what certainly appeared to be cause and effect.
This really jog my memory, Mr. HoneyPump.
When I was a kid, I remember watching a Lassie movie with my family. It showed just such a thing. There was a swarm of honeybees and they banged together pan tops, and on the show itself, it showed the bees coming down very close nearby for an easy retrieval.
Tanging isn't 100%, but I am a firm believer it works more often than not.
It's been written about for millennia. Literally.
Old things made new! It makes for good conversation, especially for newer beekeepers who may not know of it or has not had the opportunity to try it. Good stuff!

Grab yourself a couple lengths of ... maybe rebar, some wind chimes, a little kid's xylophone, maybe a cowbell,... you can start of small by maybe even jingling change in your pockets. Anything to make that tinkle ting tang sound.
Pretty soon you'll be out there banging pots and pans, looking up into the sky in wide eyed wonder with the best of us.

My problem is this: The idea is that a swarm is in the air and you are trying to get them to land. But they always land. Usually nearby. By the time I run and get pots and pans, they have already landed or they are already long gone. If I got back with the pots and pans sooner, how would I even know if it works?
One must be prepared.

Thanks for the conversation and making your good points. What you is true Mr Bush and your question is reasonable. A swarm does 'usually' land nearby. Sometimes low for an easy retrieval and sometimes on a very high limb of a tree. I guess in this case, the swing point of Mr Honey Pump was reveling they 'turned' and came back to him, then landed about waist high. Coinsidence? Either way it happened. Has anyone else had a similar experience as TheHoneyPump in tanging?
Only time I've tried was when swarm was exiting the hive and they turned around and went back in ,don't have any idea if that is why .but i put a Tee post up in close and left my driver on it serves two purposes one to know were the driver is and two to have something to tang. it has solved one problem anyway.
That's a good idea, especially for knowing where your post driver is. 😊
