Title: Queen replacement--Too late???
Post by: wvbee on August 28, 2006, 01:01:43 PM
I lost a bunch of bees to pesticide about two weeks ago.  I went into the  hive to check on my queen and she is also gone, no new eggs.  Question is this, is it too late to try to requeen.  There is capped brood, not sure of it's condition.  Does it pay to try to requeen in this situation?

These days it is never to late to requeen.  Although in the circumstance you discribe I'd be of a mind to combine the hive and over winter a bigger cluster--meaning a 2nd or 3 box.
