Title: Feeding extracted frames back to a hive
Post by: BEE C on September 09, 2006, 06:27:01 AM
Newbie question,
I have fed extracted frames back to my hives this summer, but only by adding them over brood boxes.  I also only did this for both hives at the same time.  Will it incite robbing behaviour if I put a super of extracted frames in front of my hives.  By this I mean will they finish off the extracted frames and then turn on each others hive in a frenzy of robbing? I was planning on doing this tomorrow as I extract. :?

it could incite robbing being close to hives, when I extract my supers I some times put them back on the hives for a few days, I mostly just put the extracted super's behind my home stacked on 2 saw horses and a piece of plywood, the bee's clean them there but this is 300 feet from the hives not close to them, never have started robbing at this distance.....

I would divide up the extracted frames and put some on each hive.  I think 300 yards is still chancy for igniting a robbing frenzy.
