Title: Hives humming nice and loud
Post by: tom on September 17, 2006, 02:14:16 AM
Howdy All

I came home today and went to check on my girls and it was a bit cloudy and cool but my girls were out working in full force. I notice they do thier pollen gathering in the morning and by the afternoon they are gathering water and i guess nector. Well i waited till dark and walked out to the hives and boy were they humming loud some were outside fanning but when i put my ear close to all three you could hear them roaring nice and loud so i guess they have found a source and they are rippening the nector. I want to feed them some syrup that i had made but if they are gathering good i am going to wait and then feed near the end of this month alot of flowers have not yet to bloom so it should be a good one.

Hah.   Must be nice!  Here the weather is cold (50's) and raining.  The girls are huddling in the hives, too wet for much movement.

Hello

I love that hum and it's cold outside and they were still working until it was almost dark. I went to see them this morning and they were out and it was a little above 40 degrees of course i have all carniolans and they are said to work in cool wheather when the others won't. They are bringing in lots of pollen and next week or so i am going to start feeding them syrup so they will have enough for winter and i am getting them all down to single body hives. But the humming is music to my ears and boy they are also fanning like crazy too so they are gathering lots of nector and pollen.
