Title: Dead Drone Larve!
Post by: EOHenry on September 22, 2006, 08:55:36 PM
I have been a bk for 4 years now and have not seen this before!  There is appox. 50 drone larve almost fully developed laying dead in front of one of my hives today. Why?  Are the girls getting ready for winter and throwing out the drone larve besides kicking out the drones.  Or is there something more serious going on inside the hive.  I did not open it up as it is cloudy and rainy here today.

Probaly getting ready for winter but could be mites.  My guess is getting ready for winter.

Most likely getting rid of drones before winter.  SMR stock show a hygenic trait of pulling brood that contains mites within the brood cell.  If your bees are demonstrating this trait count your blessing.  Careful observation next year should answer that question.
