Post by: BeeHopper on October 04, 2006, 12:13:46 PM
AAARRRGH ! Hundreds, if not thousands hanging out in front and on my hives, WHY    The girls went along with their business, paying no mind to the swarm of FFs, but sure as hell bugged me,  anyone else have had this.

yes, mostly around my wine glass while grilling. Some near my hives too. Ants are my problem all of a sudden.

Fermented honey in the hive will draw fruit flies.  You also may have a lot of uncapped honey that has fermented.

I was concerned about that myself, turns out there was a huge swarm of the flies passing thru the area, they were gone the following day. The local farmers call them SourFlies, they swarm every year here, but they never figured out where they come from  :?
