Title: bee hive sizes?
Post by: wayne on October 04, 2006, 06:01:32 PM
I've been surfing around on bee and beekeeping sites and have a small question.  If the Langstroth hive is more or less the US standard, and not counting the TBH, do any other countries have different size standards?
I have seen several British hives that look very different.

be as amazed as you can possibly be
AŽ hive (http://s108.photobucket.com/albums/n29/Mici_02/Cebele-bees/AZ%20panj-hive/)

frames are 410mmx260mm, for comparison, LR are 448mmx232mm

if you want to see what kind of hives they use in hungary, ask and give me your e-mail, pictures are a bit big to be uploaded on my gallery. BTW they are WAY different from our "normal" sized hives.

Then there is the WBC hive, the DE hive and many non-standard hives.

In Russia Langstrot upper bar is 30 mm shorter than in Finland.
