Title: Best advice on Ross Rounds production
Post by: buzzbee on November 08, 2006, 07:43:56 AM
I'm going to try Round section comb honey in the spring. Any advice on early preparations will be gladly accepted  :)

Ken,

Get yourself a copy of "The Comb Honey Book" by Richard Taylor.  It's less than $10 and packed with good info.

Other considerations are select strong hives and be able to place at least 1, if not 2, supers of capped honey above the ross combs.  If the Ross Combs (or any other comb honey style) is placed on top the hive the bees will usually ignore it.
I've found it's best to have supers of capped honey above and below the comb super.

Do a cut down split two weeks before the flow:

For details read the link above and/or Taylors book or Killian's book on comb honey.

If you don't crowd them up into the supers they will not do well.
