Title: Two Problems - light stores and SHB
Post by: gottabee on November 27, 2006, 08:22:00 PM
I have a couple hives that are light and obviously have little stores. I absolutely had no time to feed this fall because of family illness. I thought of feeding now but I am battling SHB. Is anyone still feeding?
Last year was my first batteling SHB. I fed the bees late into the fall. The sugar syrup on the frames was ruined by the SHB and never cured and capped. What a mess. I lost my hives last season and do not want to do the same this year. What is the best work around for these problems. Combining? There are still quite a nuber of bees in each hive.

Feeding is smallest job in beekeeping. Have a big topfeeder, get sugar and fill it with 60% syrup. Bees do the rest.

How combining helps if you do not feed them.

Oh man, that SHB must be an absolute terror, I really hope it never gets up to where we are.  It sounds horrible.  I wish that I could say something to help you out, but know nothing.  Please good luck to you with this plague.  great day. Cindi
