I was talking to my cousin recently and he said that he found a bee tree. He said that he had mentioned that he was going to cut the tree down to get the bees, but an acquaintance told him that there was a bee trap and a method for using it that could be used to catch the bees without having to cut the tree down. I had never heard of this, but agreed to post the topic for input from someone on the board. The concept seems very plausible for the worker bees, but I don't understand how the queen would be extracted from the tree.
Any input or suggestions about low impact bee removal would be appreciated.

Because it is early and my head is still foggy, I may not get this right.
The device is a bucket on the end of a pole with lid held open by a string.
The bucket is used to nudge the bees into it and then the lid is closed.
Here is the thing. This only works with a swarm on a branch. If the bees have built comb forget it. You are better off cutting down the section of branch.
There is a picture of the bucket trap on some thread in this forum but I can't remember where.

You can trap them out with a screen funnel on the entrance hole and an empty hive. Some have claimed that they get the queen, but I always put a queen in the lure hive.
