Title: Maine bees
Post by: reinbeau on April 15, 2007, 05:39:08 PM
We went to Buckfield, Maine this Saturday to bring up the three hive bodies for our nucs (he's putting them right in our equipment).  They're New World Carniolans, he showed us two of his hives (the ones we could get to, the rest are back beyond mud city!) and they were booming!  He was happy to finally see pollen coming in, the weather up there has been horrid, there's still snow everywhere and they've got another 12" coming tonight, or so they predicted!  We're hoping for good things from these bees.  We pick them up in mid-May.

He's hardy, that's for sure!

I forgot to mention, he had 680 hives going into the winter, and lost only 25.  That's the best record I've heard around here!  He's definitely doing things right.
