Title: strenghtening a hive using capped brood from a nuc
Post by: filmmlif on April 19, 2007, 07:13:33 PM
one of my nucs has two frames of capped brood. i would like to help a weak hive by adding brood from the nuc but i have never done it before. is taking a frame of capped brood from the nuc going to weaken it too much? if not, how do i add the brood to the weak hive.
thanks.

One weak and one strong better than two weak .Why is your other one weak?

You can do that.

But if you do not have a laying queen in the week hive it may try to make a queen cell which is fine but it will take a month before she starts laying.

kirk-o asked the right question, why is the other hive weak?

Sincerely,
Brendhan

Sounds like an excellent idea. Should also help to keep the nuc busy enough they may be less likely to swarm.

If your nuc is that strong, why not put it in a hive? If your hive is that weak, move it to a nuc. If you have no queen in the hive, move eggs to it , not capped brood. Only my little opinion.
