In the early season, I deal with a lot of new hives that have very little comb. I usually vacuum these hives and cage the queen, which I place next to me on the drive home. I've wondered if on long trips to the beeyard if I could feed her, considering she has no attendants. Anyone ever try this and if so, will any royal jelly do?
I'd make a small battery box (or buy one from Mann Lake). Then you can shake a few workers in, put a piece of sponge with some syrup in and they will care for her. If you are only making a short trip it probably won't matter much. She won't let you feed her.
Thanks for the response Michael. I didn't think she would but it doesn't hurt to ask.
