Title: Question about swarms
Post by: bozbee on April 25, 2007, 02:04:08 PM
Probably a simple question. I know swarms arrive becuase a new queen is introduced or the current hive is just too overcrowded. My question is do I take the swarm back to the original brood box they came from or introduce them to a new brood box?
Thanks,
boz

If they swarmed because it is overcrowded, start a new hive. If they swarmed because of there is another queen, also start a new hive. Unless you don't want two hives, you can combine them again and they probably won't swarm for another month - 2 months depending on situations. But if you find your own swarm, its a perfect oportunity to start another hive because of the garuantee that there is a queen with the swarm. Two weak hives are less productive than one strong hive.

Its your pick.
