Title: moving a hive
Post by: The Bee Man on May 04, 2007, 12:43:59 AM
I have a hive that I need to move about 100 feet to avoid some issues with a neighbor.  I have always thought that to move the hive is not such a great idea since the bees are oriented to the spot they are in, unless the move is a couple of miles.  Am I off base here?

Seal up the entrances in the late afternoon.
Move the hive at night.
Unseal the entrances.
Place branches right in the entrance so the bees are forced to reorient.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

The branch part I did not know.  Do you mean to take some twigs and stick them a bit into the door of the hive, so they break up the flight pattern?  Or some other way?

Just like you thought. Take some twigs and stick them into the door a bit.

Perfect.  Thanks!  I had been putting up little directional signs, but they had never worked.   :-D
