Title: Cutting comb
Post by: TigerLily on May 12, 2007, 08:51:21 PM
Today I was at a beekeeping class and the beekeeper gave me some comb from his tbh to help my bees out when they come. The problem is that the comb is too wide for my tbh. If I cut down the sides of the comb, will it still be stable?

No, it's from a top bar hive for my top bar hive. Thanks for helping me!  :)

How stable comb is is directly proportionate to how heavy it is with honey and how new the wax is.  New wax is very fragile.  If it's older wax, and especially if it's older wax with cocoons in it from brood (brown or black looking comb) then it should be quite strong.

Great, thank you. The comb we received is older comb.
