Title: Cut-off time for starting new hives
Post by: Draginol on May 23, 2007, 10:11:00 PM
Greetings! I have two hives currently (just starting out) and am interested in adding more but am wondering if it's already too late in the season to be obtaining more Nucs for the year. Not that concerned with honey production for the first year, just looking to start having a reasonable number of hives by the end of the season.

Thanks!

Into mid-June for a swarm is not too late, beyond that yes.  You need time for the hive to build up from sctrach.  With a nuc you already have a 14-30 day head start over a swarm so you might get by until July 1.
