anyone ever raise pheasants? are they similar to guineas?
The peasants are revolting.
Yeah and they smell bad too.
Oh you mean the bird.
Sincerely,

>anyone ever raise pheasants?
Yes.
> are they similar to guineas?
Not really.
I raised Goldens and Ring Necks and had a friend who also had Mongolians and Lady Amhearsts.
The Ring Necks are too wild for me. The Goldens were easy enough to get along with, kind of nervous but not scalping themselves in the overhead netting all the time like the ring necks.
but can they be kept uncaged? free to wander?
>but can they be kept uncaged? free to wander?
Not if you want to ever see them again. They require a yard with the roof closed in either with chicken wire or with netting.
I had Reeves at one time. Delicious. A net over the pen is a must or they'll all fly away.
Never raised them but a private hunting club is right next to my property and phesants get driven into our yard all the time. I have a hen raising a clutch of about 12 young in my back acre as we speak. Everytime I walk back there in the tall grass I spook them and they all fly out. With how small the babies are and how good they can already fly, I would say that a top net is a must.
