Title: Update on my nucs
Post by: Lesli on June 25, 2004, 10:44:39 AM
Hey all,
I installed my two nucs on Wednesday evening. Since then, I've checked on them twice a day, morning and evening. I couldn't guarantee that either was queenright, since there were were dead bees in each nuc. So I've been doing visuals to see what the girls are up to.

The nights have been cool, and I see that the girls start flying around 7:30 in the morning, in dribs and drabs. When I check after work, though, there's real activity. They seem to heading for the sumac trees, which are in bloom now, and perhaps my tulip trees.

I think I saw one of my girls on a daisy. Hm.

I only have one feeder, so I gave it to the weaker hive, along with an entrace reducer. I'll be headed to the store today to get another feeder and some other supplies--I didn't anticipate having two hives so soon, so I'm short a few things.

As far as I can tell, with my poor knowledge, the girls are doing what they should be, so I'm hoping both hives are queenright. I'll check for eggs and uncapped brood in a few days.
