Title: Moving hives.
Post by: newbee07 on June 08, 2007, 03:15:42 PM
I needed a few opinions to go by about moving 2 hives. I have 1 hive that is making honey like crazy right now. I have more in another location thats really slow because of the crops around. If i wanted to move a couple of my stronger hives to the location i have the one that is doing good because of the crops that are around, what steps would be best for me to take. I had in mind to go out before sundown and put a sreen top on the hive leave the cover off and the go back after dark sets in and put the reducer in to block the bees in the hive and then move them. When i get them there undo the entrance reducer and let the be. Is this okay?

Assuming your moving them more than a couple miles, that should work fine.  In fact,  you can save yourself a trip by not going out before sunset to put on the screen.  You can just screen off the entrance for the move, or put the screen on top when you go out after dark.
