or Echinacea purpurea. Mine are just starting to bloom. We have hundreds of them this year.

Newbee101.  Wow!!!!  What a shot, the bee looks like its in heaven.  I grow echinacea too, but I actually haven't noticed any bees on them ever.  Same species as your purpurea, but maybe other stuff is just too much more enticing to them than the coneflower.  Gotta wonder about these bees, spoiled?  Have a wonderful day.  Cindi

As to the purple cone flower: I was at the Bernheim Forest last weekend and the honeybees were all over the purple cone flower garden at the entrance to Bernheim Forest. I didn't see much else they were interested in. for your info. Pembroke

My bees ignore coneflower. Goldfinches like'm though in the fall.

The bees are all over mine - my honeybees, bumblebees and some tiny bees that look like miniature honeybees.  Fantastic picture, newbee101.

Here are some of mine - not such gorgeous pictures, but I love the echinecea and grow lots of it.

Linda, nice pictures in your Blog.  I think that I will have to watch my echinacea more closely this year, maybe it produces nectar only during certain parts of the day, and the times that I have looked, there was not any bees.  Hmm.  Have a wonderful day, great life.  Cindi

Newbee101.  Eeeeeweeee, another beauty of the picture.

Mici, no I think that the blue black is the actual colouration of the thorax of the bee.  Many of the insects of this world when light shines upon them have this beautiful shimmery look.  Wow, love the pics.  Have a wonderful day, great life.  Cindi
