I did the crush method to extract a bit of honey and from this rendered a good pound of very nice wax. Some of it I am melting into the tops of my frames for the girls to use as starter strips, so far this has been working very well. With the rest of the wax I was thinking candles, but first I would like to ask if it would benefit the bees if I were to melt the chunks of wax onto an unused frame. Will they chew at this wax and use it in other parts of the hive to draw out frames? Or will it remain where it is at unused, in large chunks and cause problems?

They will not use old wax to any extent that I've seen.  They will tear down old comb sometimes and move it, but I've never seen them gather cappings and I've never seem them use chunks of wax.
