Can this be fed in an external way like people have described 1:1 feeding? Buckets topped with straw, cans/buckets inverted with holes in the bottom, etc? I'd like to feed all my hives from the same bucket, rather than put something on top of the hives that could leak down into them when the sun hits them and causes the contents to expand. I could feed them in the top feeders, but then I'd have to have syrup sitting around...I don't want to make 2 gallons at a time, I'd rather make a lot.

Also, does anyone know how many lbs of sugar to 1 gal of water for 2:1? I'd rather not measure my sugar in gallons if I don't have to.

I buy a 15 pound bag and add it to just a little under a gallon of water.
