Last fall I rapped my hives with 2 inch of foam building insulation. The winter has been very cold and windy and just won't quit. Sunday the temp rose to a balmy 28 degrees. I been worried about my girls, so I made my way through the snow out to the hives. I didn't want to remove the cover to look in and because of the insulation the only place I could put my ear to listen for any buzzing was at the top entrance. On the first hive I was happy to hear loud buzzing and jumped back because I felt something in my ear. To check the rest of the hives I had to pull my stocking hat over my ear to protect it. I'm glad to report that all hives are buzzing. I don't think they would have made it without the insulation. It has been a very hard winter.
