I am planning to add another hive, I am nervous about buying 2 packages...I will get at least one...May I place the newly hived bees near my established hive without creating problems???

that's what i do.  each  new one has gone next to the existing.  when i had to combine last year, i just scooted the keepers into the void.

Leave a little room in between the hives so that you can put the top cover there or other things, while working the bees. This comes in handy. But there is nothing wrong with placing hives next to one another.
