did my fourth cutout yesterday, boy oh boy was it rough!!

went to the house and found the hive was in a wall behind the electrical meter, the interior of the house was too cluttered to go from the inside, the wall was 12 feet tall, the bees were in a very bad mood!

started to expose the hive about half way up the wall and discovered it went to the top of the wall.
got the entire hive exposed except behind the meter which covered a 1 foot wide section of hive about 4 feet long.

this hive was from the top of the wall to the foot plate of the wall,12 feet long! 2 feet wide and 3 combs deep.
there were queen cells and this hive and it  had swarmed last wednesday, the woman next door had paincked and sent her husband outside to spray the swarm with the garden hose for an hour.

i believe the queen got killed and the workers went back to the home hive because of the large # of workers covering the comb.

took me all day to get the comb cut out and the bees into the hive ( i dont have a bee vac )
i got stung 50 or so times during the day.

this was the meanest hive i have dealt with to date.

could the swarm last week have been the old queen and the bees were queenless waiting on the queen cells to emerge?

i think that is the reason that they were so mean, i saw brood but no young larve or eggs.

i found 2 good queen cells and i put them into the hive so that i know it wont bee a queenless hive for long.

for the inexperienced beeks wanting to do cutouts bee carefull of what you wish for, you might get it!

look for the smaller / younger hives to do your first few cutouts on to gain experience and courage!

good luck to all

most often i find my greatest source of stress to be OPS  ( other peoples stupidity )

It is better to keep ones mouth shut and be thought of as a fool than to open ones mouth and in so doing remove all doubt.

I would say you are right about why they were so hacked off. Sounds hugh and like they have been there for some time. To bad about the swarm. You could have had a 2 fer.. Did you tell that lady the next time they see a swarm to call you.  50 stings.. ouch maybe you should charge by the sting :-D

The worse (meanest) cut out I did was during the time they were swarming. They were vicious.

Bailey, you know that you have to do your share of removals from hell to appreciate the ones that aren't all that difficult. A hive like that will test you and sometimes you wanna just start running like a pansy, screaming for ya momma! Those sweet little honeymakers were from hell you think? Not those little darlings, no! 50 stings is no spring picnic! I'm sure glad those bees showed up in your gourd last season! Man, I can't wait for our next fishing trip!!! We can lick our wounds then.
