I am looking for recommendations on pollen traps.  I bought one that attaches to the outside of the hive and it does not seem to work very well.  It appeared that the bees were getting trapped, but no pollen falling off.  The bees did not like it.

Any recommendations of brands that have worked for others would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael Bush

My favorite is the Sundance II.  The next best is the Sundance.  The Sundance II goes on top and requires a top entrance, but it's simpler, cheaper and you get cleaner pollen that the regular Sundance.  But with the Regular Sundance you still get very clean pollen.  Many people seem to start off with the cheap ones and end up with a Sundance.

Who makes the sundance?  Can I simply block off the bottom entrance and change it to the top?

Ross Rounds (Lloyd Spears) makes the Sundance.  Many of the suppliers stock them.  I think I bought mine from Walter T. Kelley.

I would get them used to a top entrance before putting on the Sundance II, by making a top entrance, wait a day or so, block most of the bottom entrance, wait a day or so, then block the bottom entrance completely.  Then when they have used the top entrance a few days, put the pollen trap on.

I am using an exterior one where you hang it on the outside of the hive and it has opening to pull out pollen.

Agni,

What brand is it and where did you get it?  Or could you take a picture of it. Does it work well, I have notices the Bees are bringing in a very large amount of pollen right now and want to get something on the hive.

Thanks,
