Okay, our 5 frame nuc has now expanded to 8 frames.  Those bees have been busy!   We are using foundationless frames and have introduced them into the broodnest as instructed.  Our girls are building beautiful straight comb that is amazing to see.

I have been lucky enough to see eggs (with my nose almost touching the comb), larvae, honey, pollen, and the queen, in both hives.  So this weekend we are going to add a super for more brood.

What do we need to do to help ensure that they continue to build nice straight comb on the foundationless frames in the new brood box?

If your girls are drawing straight comb without foundation, that is great.  Sometimes they will draw comb in all directions.  To avoid what I call "crazy comb", you may want to try and give them a starter strip at the top of the frame to help give them some direction.  Good luck!

I won't let grass grow under my feet, there will be plenty of time to push up daisies.

Yup, all our frames have a starter strip made from craft sticks glued into the top bar.

When adding second brood box ,take a few, usualy half of the brood frames and place them in center of the second box . Make sure lower brood is underneath  the top . This is known as pyramiding. LUCK!!!
