I just put my second hive in last weekend.  I left the queen in her cage for 5 days then went to check on her. She was out and everything looked fine.  They have plenty of syrup in their top feeder and I have left them alone. That was two days ago.  Now this afternoon we noticed a swarm has landed in our apple tree.  I went to check on my new hive.  They are coming and going like usual and I took a peek inside they look busy and about like they did 2 days ago.  Could this be a separate colony or have some of my girls flown the coop... What should I do..I do not have another hive ready for a swarm but could possible have one ready tomorrow afternoon.

grab the swarm and put them in a cardboard box.  get your hive ready.  install tomorrow.

Hey Tammy,
I had the same thing happen to me last spring after I got my first two packages!....Right there in my backyard one morning I had a swarm in a tree!
I thought it was one of my new packages too, but it wasnt.I had checked both packages and they were the same way as when i put them in! . I caught the swarm up and hived them. I thought i did good but 2 days later they flew away :-\
I wonder if this is kinda typical. you know, when swarms come around other hives, particularly new ones, like maybe from a phermone scent drawing them or something?
Go ahead and try to box them up :-D Theyre free bees!
Oh yeh,....when i caught this swarm up, it was the first time I ever got stung.....13 times, mostly on my ankles!

i caught one swarm at the base of a tree sticker. three days later five feet away from the tree another swarm boxed them up.. had noticed that there was a feral hive ten feet up.. four weeks and the hives are doing very well..

I doubt they came from your hive unless they didnt like where they were at and absconded but there would be no bees in your hive other than stragglers. Quick... hive them before they are GONE. Then thank the good Lord for the free bees :-D
