Being the lazy sort I tend to be pretty careless around my hives.  I move to fast and rarely wear protective clothing against stings.  I've had stings pretty much all over my body at one time or another including my face and head but normally I get over them pretty quick.Well the other day I experienced a sting I never want again.  I was putting the telescoping cover back on a hive and one of the little girls got me under a fingernail.  My nails were a little long and I had a difficult time getting the stinger out.  Dadgum finger swelled up underneath that nail and it was like I had hit it will a hammer.  It actually brought a blood blister to the top of the skin.
I doubt it will cause me to start wearing gloves but you can bet I'll keep those nails trimmed.

I know what you mean ,,,  last year I got it on the side of my nail right down in the grove  man did the wake me up ....     this year Ive gotten 2 stings ,,, one I crushed a girl on the frame ....    last sunday one got me on the chest ,,, ( I don' t like to  wear a shirt  as the girls crawl inside and I get stung ,,, almost every time I wear one to work the hive ) any way ,, when she stung me ,, it didn't sting ,,, it felt like someone hit me with a rock type of pain ,,
it never felt like that beefore ... now it feels more like a bruise...
my oldest boy says I work the hives like a bear ,,, when he's with walking up to the hives he says look out here comes the bear
