So far all that I have read about splits infer placing the frames in a deep nuc?

I would like to split the medium colonies.  Are there medium sized nucs?  OR should I just build a new hive with an 8 frame medium box?

Help me por favor,

Thanks

Jack

Hello,

I believe you can get medium five frame nucs at several distributers. Think I bought a few at Brushy Hill (sp) a couple of years back.

You don't have to make a split into a nuc.  BTW an eight frame medium is exactly the same volume as a five frame deep nuc...

Try Rossman ,  they have a great deal on Medium nucs...  complete set of 4 with a stand and frames and such for 100.00   made from Cypress which needs no paint!....

I just orderd 4 set in the deep version  for myself.....  (they were 110)

gota love cypress!  worth and extra 5.00 a box for me!

All I used was regular med box with some of that plastic corrugated sign stuff as a divider to raise 1 hive I have now. Started with five frames. Two mediums deep now. Would have been three except for the weather setback.
