THIN HONEY

I just took a full super that was a empty box no frames and the girls packed it solid with comb for me and caped it all my question is the honey from this super was not thick at all i got some beautiful chunks of comb from this super but thin honey anyone ever experience this

i have some thin honey here and i was told it depended on the nectar source.  some plants just have thin nectar and no matter that its capped or dehumidified, it doesnt get as thick as other kinds of honey.

I too have a thin batch this year -  I call it my runny honey.

Have you been feeding the bees a lot of bee tea?

I find that when I first extract, the honey seems thin.  I'm not sure why that is, because if it is capped then it will be cured properly.

Unless you did your crush and strain on a humid day, it absorbs water.

Once the honey sits a while, gets a bit cooler, it seems thicker.  And when it crystallizes then it gets really thick...

My honey was very light and thin as well.  All of it was fully capped when harvested. I'm hoping it was just the nectar. Here's a pic:



Anyway, I bottled in mason jars when the honey was warm, as it cooled a bit, it sucked the lids in on the jars.  I'm going to be watching to see if the lids pop out a bit.  That might indicate fermentaiton.

All you have to be concerned about is moisture content.  My spring honey is light and very flowing.  Water content is just under 17%.  Fall honey is darker and thicker with moisture content of 17.5 %.  Its ok for me in both cases! :-D
