is there any way to get a swarm down from a tree 60 feet high

Where there's a will there's a way, but you just might want to wait for an easier one to come by. I would.

sometimes a swarm trap with the usual bait will bring them in but you gotta get it there quick after you find it.

This could be an opportunity to try "Tanging"?

Scott
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

A cherry picker - else use a jet of water to knock the swarm to the ground - I wouldn't go climbing the tree myself !

what is tanging never heard of this

Try a search for tanging...it's my understanding that you can land a swarm or call it down from a tall tree by rhythmically banging on a pot with a spoon or stick. Haven't ever tried it myself but I'd be willing to give it a go.

Wow!  60 feet.  I think I would pass.

I caught a swarm on Tuesday that was about 30 feet high in a small cedar tree.  That's about the max that I would attempt.  Since the tree had been damaged earlier, I ended up cutting it down to get the swarm.

How certain are you on the 60'?  Sometimes it can be deceiving,  and at that height 10 ft can make a big difference.  I have used my bee vac with the hose taped to a 20' pole while standing in a fully raised bucket of a backhoe.  Wasn't 60 feet,  but just looking at it from the ground could have easily convince people it was.
